Murren – Switzerland – A Heavenly Village With Panoramic Mountain Views (2024)
#Swiss #Switzerland #Village
Murren is a car-free village perched on a cliff in the Bernese Oberland, offering a peaceful and idyllic setting for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Surrounded by majestic peaks such as the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, Murren sits at 1,638 metres above sea level.
It is not accessible by public road, which adds to its charm. The village's unique character stems from its history as a former settlement of people from the Lötschental valley in Valais - a legacy that is still reflected today in the way its houses are built and the pronunciation of the Murr dialect. At 1,650 metres, it is the highest continuously inhabited village settlement in the canton of Bern.
A double cable car leads from Lauterbrunnen up to the plateau, while a cable car from Stechelberg leads past turbulent waterfalls and rugged rock faces into the heart of the car-free village. And let's not forget the famous Schilthorn - the mountain with the breathtaking panoramic view, made famous by the Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". The magnificent 360° panorama from the summit of the Schilthorn includes the world-famous Alpine trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.❤️
