The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its highest-level alert for monkeypox as the viral infection continues to spread across the globe. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the disease is now a “public health emergency of international concern”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its highest-level alert for monkeypox as the viral infection continues to spread across the globe. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the disease is now a “public health emergency of international concern”. More than 16,000 cases and five deaths had been reported worldwide as of July 25, 2022. Monkeypox has been detected in 75 countries and regions, including South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, India and Singapore.
