People living in mainland China’s Xiamen city react to PLA drills and Pelosi visit to Taiwan

From fears over a China-US war to hopes for peace, reactions were mixed from people in Xiamen, the mainland China port city about 300km (186 miles) from Taiwan, when asked about US House speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan and Beijing’s stern response. City residents also had a front-row seat to People’s Liberation Army live-fire drills following Pelosi’s August 2-3, 2022, stop in Taipei.
