Russia and Ukraine carried out a prisoner swap on September 21, the largest since the war began in February. The prisoners received by Russia include Viktor Medvedchuk, a former Ukrainian lawmaker and ally of Russian President Putin. President Volodymr Zelenskyy said his government had won freedom from Russian custody for 215 Ukrainian and foreign citizens. He credited the the swap deal to Turkish and Saudi mediation efforts.
