Shinzo Abe death: World leaders react to former Japan PM's assassination
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, U.S. President Joe Biden, and South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo were among the world leaders paying their condolences to former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated Friday as he was giving a campaign speech in Nara, Japan.
Trudeau said he knew Abe as a "compassionate, strong leader who understood the importance of service, understood the importance of building a better world." He also called the incident "horrifically disturbing."
Biden said Japan was a "very, very stable ally," and that he would stop to sign the condolence book at the Japanese embassy in Washington, D.C. later on Friday.
Abe was shot and killed while campaigning for a parliamentary election. Police arrested a 41-year-old man shortly after and said the weapon was a homemade gun.
