The first autonomous shuttle service in Punggol, Singapore, is set to open to the public by the second quarter of 2026. Three new fixed-route autonomous shuttle service routes will be progressively deployed in Punggol, operated by Grab and ComfortDelGro. Grab will run two routes using WeRide autonomous vehicles under its Ai.R service, while ComfortDelGro will operate one route using Pony.ai vehicles.
The shuttles, which seat between five to eight passengers, will be purple and marked as "autonomous shuttle" for easy identification. The first route, operated by Grab, will connect residents from Matilda Court and Punggol Clover to the polyclinic at Oasis Terraces and Punggol Plaza. ComfortDelGro’s route will serve Punggol Northshore residents and connect them to key locations like Oasis Terraces, Punggol Plaza, One Punggol, and Punggol Coast Mall. The third route operated by Grab will link several residential areas to One Punggol and Punggol Coast Mall.
These autonomous shuttles aim to improve first-mile-last-mile connectivity and reduce travel time by up to 15 minutes via public transport connections. Prior to public service, the shuttles will undergo rigorous testing and a community familiarization phase where selected residents can try rides with safety operators onboard. The project reflects Singapore’s broader push to integrate autonomous vehicles safely into its public transport network while creating new transport and career opportunities.
Safety and reliability are key priorities, with the vehicles having passed stringent assessments in compliance with Singapore traffic rules. The authorities plan to expand autonomous shuttle services to other towns, with the Punggol rollout seen as a pilot for wider adoption. Fares are expected to fall between public transport and ride-hailing prices.
