VIOLENT fighting in Luhansk leaves villagers battling to extinguish huge fires threatening their crops and livelihoods. For civilians who stayed behind in their villages along the frontline in the Donbas the fighting between Russia and Ukraine poses a new threat. Shelling and firing of rockets nearby sets their fields on fire and can destroy their crop. With a dry and hot summer approaching the risk is increasing.
